Why shouldn't I pressure
clean my roof?
You can pressure clean
your roof. However, you must take into consideration the
amount of force applied to a roof while using pressure. 3500
pounds per square inch is what is generally used by a Home
Depot pressure cleaner and most professionals. The force of
that pressure times the volume of water chips, cracks and
breaks tiles, loosens mortar and eventually causes leaks in
a roof. Roofs were made to keep the even falling rain from
entering your home. You are basically leak testing! Even a
professional pressure cleaner must carry a heavy surface
cleaner along with his lance and high pressure hose walking
each row of you tiles. Between equipment, water, pressure
and body weight, there are going to be problems in the
future. Asphalt shingle roofs should never be cleaned with a
pressure cleaner. Asphalt granules and material are blown
off the surface never to be recovered, decreasing the life
of your roof. Homeowners insurance policies do not cover
pressure cleaned roofs anymore. All insurance companies
recommend cleaning according to the suggested manufacturer's
recommendation. Chemical Cleaning! |
